Megan Thee Stallion Says Debut Album Will Address Black Lives Matter, Set to Arrive This Summer

The Houston-bred artist also touches on the highs and lows of living a public life in a new interview.

Megan Thee Stallion has shared that her upcoming debut album will address the Black Lives Matter movement and the ongoing unrest in the Black community.

In an in-depth profile for Variety, the Houston-bred rapper expresses what it’s been like experiencing the highs and lows of her public life. Since new music is always what fans are asking for, Megan went on the record and said her debut album is set to arrive before the summer ends. She also shared that a new persona would be introduced, fans already have gotten to know Hot Girl Meg, Suga and Tina Snow.

Alongside the new persona, she expressed the album will be equipped with lyrics addressing the Black Lives Matter movement. This is fitting due to the protests that have been taking place globally following the deaths of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arberry and countless others this year.  “I feel like everything that’s going on right now, if it hasn’t moved you to speak out or try to make some type of difference, then something might be slightly wrong with you.” She also added: “Even though I haven’t already come out with a song with that messaging, I definitely plan on it.”

This was also Megan’s first interview following her recent Instagram Live video in which she touched on the California shooting involving her and a friend, Kelsey Nicole. The viral clip that attracted thousands of viewers ended with the artist declaring: “I just want y’all to know a bitch is alive and well and strong as f—, and ready to get back to my regular programming.” She didn’t provide a recollection of the widely publicized incident via Instagram beyond that she was shot in both of her feet and taken to surgery.

A previously released report stated Tory Lanez was at the scene, he’s currently under investigation for his involvement in the shooting. Lanez was also allegedly arrested earlier this month for felony gun charges.

One notion that rings loudly included when Megan spoke with Variety on her meteoric rise within the music industry: “The only thing I don’t like about having all eyes on you at all times is not all eyes are good eyes.”

This Friday, “WAP” her newest single produced by Ayo N Keyz with Cardi B is set to release. When the track artwork was shared on social media one day ago, Twitter and Instagram immediately embraced it. The single could go on to become Megan’s second No.1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 behind the “Savage (Remix)” featuring Beyoncé. Her debut album is slated to follow “WAP.”
