Lovers and Friends is the latest festival to get axed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Initially scheduled to take place on May 8th and 9th at The Grounds at Dignity Health Sports Park, the festival was postponed to August 8th as the pandemic took hold and lockdown protocols went into effect.
“After much consideration and monitoring of the ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are saddened to announce that Lovers & Friends Festival 2020 will not be taking place,” organizers wrote on the festival’s site. They add, “It breaks our hearts that we aren’t able to see each other in August, but our number one priority is the health and safety of you and everyone involved in the festival.” They go on to note that tickets will be automatically refunded within 30 days.
Though highly-scrutinized after its announcement, the Lovers and Friends line-up was slated to include performances from stars of the late-90s, early-2000s hip-hop and r&b boom. Lil Kim, Lauryn Hill, TLC, Usher, Lil Jon, Nelly, Sean Paul, Ludacris, and others were all confirmed to take the stage.
Lovers and Friends’ cancellation follows that of J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival, as well as this year’s Glastonbury, which would have celebrated its 50th anniversary.
