A J Dilla Beat May Appear On Big Sean’s ‘Detroit 2’ Album

The rapper said that Common helped “plug him with the J Dilla beats.”

Following the announcement of his forthcoming Detroit 2 album, Big Sean offered some insight on the album during an Instagram Live with DJ Khaled.

On Monday (May 25), Khaled shared his conversation with Sean on his Instagram account, where the pair not only talked about the forthcoming album but Sean’s plans to support and invest in new artists coming out of Detroit. In regards to the former topic, Sean also seemed to hint that some production from the late J Dilla may appear on the album.

Around the 10:50 mark, Khaled announces that Common had checked in with him.

“That’s my brother,” Sean said in response. “He actually helped plug me with the J Dilla beats. So, thank you Common.”

“Oh, you got a J Dilla beat on the album?” Khaled asked.

“I don’t know, you gotta wait,” Sean replied coyly. “I might be talking way too much.”

As their conversation continues, Sean goes on to say that Detroit 2 is coming soon, meaning that we hopefully won’t have to wait too long to see if Dilla actually appears on the album or not.

Sean isn’t the only rapper who has been given Dilla beats in recent history. Back in February, Black Sheep’s Dres annnounced that he had a collaborative album in the works with the late rapper and producer.

“I got this project that I’m dropping this spring,” he said about the album during a show. “It’s by DnD. DnD is Dilla and Dres. I got permission from Ma Dukes to go through like 500 folders of music…Some of this stuff is 15 years old that you haven’t heard, and it’s so far ahead of what it is. So y’all be on the lookout for this project. DnD. The name of the project is called No Words. Dilla and Dres. This spring.”
