Frank Ocean Breaks Silence, Launches Voter Registration Campaign

"Watching [Trump get] dragged out will be way more entertaining than these debates."

Frank Ocean is stepping into the battle for the country's moral and political future.

Last night, during a categorical shitshow of a presidential debate, the reclusive artist echoed the country's general sentiments towards watching Biden and Trump yell over each other from a distance in a brief statement shared on his Instagram story. "Debates are on. It all feels fake. The problem's that it's not," Ocean wrote. He adds, "Watching [Trumping get] dragged out will be way more entertaining than these debates," before urging fans to register to vote via a freshly-launched portal on his site, blonded.co.

Ocean's voter registration campaign marks his second politically-motivated initiative in as many elections. During the 2018 midterms, the artist offered exclusive tees for free to those who proved they voted in Miami, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas. In the lead up to the race, he also returned with three surprise installments of his BlondedRADIO program on Beats 1, waxing on the import of local elections across freeform mixes alongside co-host and colloborator, Vegyn.

The artist's statement ended a hiatus from the public forum following the death of his 18-year-old brother, Ryan Breaux, in early August. Breaux was killed in a tragic car accident along with a friend, Ezekial Bishop. He appeared on Ocean's 2016 album, Blond(e)d, which closed with an interview between the Breaux brothers on the track "Futura Free." Late last year, Ocean began a campaign of new music releases, sharing the songs, "DHL," "In My Room, "Cayendo," and "Dear April." The latter two singles were offered as limited edition 7-inch vinyl releases with remixes from Sango and Justice, respectively, leaving fans in a whirl of speculation over a potential follow-up to Blond(e)d and Endless.

Read Frank Ocean's full statement below. If you're not already registered to vote, head over to blonded.co to fill out the form and secure your ballot in what is inarguably the most important election in the nation's history.
