A Book On Erykah Badu Album ‘New Amerykah Part Two’ Is Coming in 2024

Written by Karmeryn Alexa Carter, a book on 2010 Erykah Badu album New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) is coming to 333Sound.

2010 Erykah Badu album New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) will be honored via publishing company 333 Sound next year. On Friday (January 27), 33 1/3 Books announced their new roster of forthcoming music books, including Kate Bush’s Hounds of Love, The Isley Brothers’ 3+3 and No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom.

“You can expect these books to begin publishing in early 2024. We hope that this list includes both some well-loved and new albums for you to explore,” a description on the website reads.

Written by Karmeryn Alexa Carter, poet and founding co-editor of Emergent Literary, Badu’s 33 1/3 will center New Amerykah Part Two, which is also her latest full-length album. Via Universal Motown, the LP featured singles “Gone Baby, Don’t Be Long,” “Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY)” and “Window Seat.” The music video for the latter single controversially depicted the singer being shot while nude at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas, where 35th U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

“The people caught in the shot were trying hard to ignore me,” Badu tweeted about the music video at the time. “Lol, [except] one guy grabbing [my] clothes. … He disappeared. Didn’t have time to look for him or clothes. We ran. It was the peeps off camera yelling.

While people shouted at her during filming, the Grammy-winning artist persisted, tweeting, “I held my head up and kept moving. … There were children there. I prayed they wouldn’t b traumatized.”

New Amerykah Part Two was followed with communication-centric mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone in 2015 with remakes of Drake‘s “Hotline Bling” and New Edition‘s “Mr. Telephone Man.”

Also this week, Badu was announced as a co-headliner for the 2023 Jazz In the Gardens Music Fest at Miami Gardens in March.
