Donald Glover is not being sued by his ex record label, Glassnote Entertainment Group. Last week TMZ reported that Glassnote filed a lawsuit over streaming royalties. But, according to Billboard, the label only filed a complaint over digital royalties for the master recordings of the three albums Glover released with the label: Camp, Because the Internet, and Awaken, My Love!

Pitchfork was able to talk to a representative from Glassnote. Here is the response they sent back:

Unfortunately the reporting by TMZ is not accurate. We are not claiming Donald Glover screwed us out of anything.

Donald Glover made a claim that he was owed 95% of SoundExchange royalties when we are legislatively and contractually required to share those royalties 50/45. When we tried to assert our position, he became strident. His lawyers sent a demand for $1.5mm and threatened a lawsuit on his behalf. We have simply asked the court to review the contract and to provide a declaration of relief that our position is correct pursuant to our contract and federal copyright law and that monies paid by SoundExchange to Glassnote can be retained by Glassnote, in the same way that monies paid by SoundExchange to Donald Glover can be retained by him.

I’d like to point out that in our 11 years of operating we have never been in litigation with an artist.

We are not asking for anything back from Donald Glover, just that we are able to retain the monies that are contractually and legally ours and that have already been paid to us.

Donald Glover is headed to court

Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, is being sued by Glassnote Entertainment Group, the rapper/singer/actor's ex-record label. According to TMZ, the label claims they never received $700,000 in streaming royalties that is owed by Glover.

Glassnote, which has released Glover's three biggest projects, 2011’s Camp, 2013’s Because of the Internet, and 2016's “Awaken, My Love!," claims that it has paid Glover around $8 million, with the expectation that the singer will pay back the label about $2 million in streaming royalties over a span of three months.

At the top of this year, Glover ended his relationship with Glassnote, signing a deal with RCA Records for what he called "the next phase" of his "musical career."
