Boldy James has one in the stash with production from J Dilla. The Detroit emcee recently hit the Trill store in Phoenix, where he spoke with D-Stroy about his upcoming project, giving the web series an exclusive.
“I’ve actually got an announcement to make,” James said. “You talking about they don’t even know what’s about to happen, you don’t even know what’s about to happen. I got a whole entirely produced J Dilla project that I’m about to drop. I would tell you the name of it, but I had to tell you that. I got the last of the Dilla stash.”
James added, “A lot of people owe their success, you know, not owe their success, but he alley-ooped a lot of people’s success. The list goes on, I’m not about to start name-dropping, but if you don’t know who this guy is, you need to do your history. J Dilla, Detroit, stand up.”
James previously collaborated over a J Dilla production with his cousin, The Cool Kids member Chuck Inglish on “Detroit Game” from 2012 album Rebirth Of Detroit. In 2020, the rapper also spoke with HipHopDX about having unreleased production from Dilla.
“I got all types of works,” James said at the time. “[The Alchemist] and I got another plate. I got some Daringer records in the stash. The list goes on, man. You’d be surprised to know I got a whole J Dilla project … unheard J Dilla. I know people who know people, you know. They give me work on the strength.”
James most recent album Killing Nothing released on May 20.
