Black Star Putting on Surprise New York City Concert Days After ‘SNL’ Appearance

Black Star will be putting on a special late night performance days after their appearance on Saturday Night Live.

It’s not just Saturday Night Live.

Blue Note Entertainment Group and Luminary have just announced that Black Star (yasin bey and Talib Kweli) will be performing at Sony Hall on Tuesday, November 15th. What’s really cool is the fact that it will be a late night show — with the show starting at midnight.

The show will come days after the group will perform on Saturday Night Live, which will be hosted by friend and podcast co-host Dave Chappelle. (We imagine Chappelle will make an appearance at the Black Star show.) This will cap off a big year for Black Star. In May, they released No Fear of Time, their first new album in 24 years. The album, which was produced by Madlib, was released exclusively on the subscription podcast platform Luminary.

On Friday, Black Starr also released their latest video, which is for “So Be It.” The video, which was premiered by Consequence, is a collection of live performances from the duo. “So Be It” is the first video released from No Fear of Time.

Kweli spoke to Consequence about the song, saying:

“The song is a lyrical exercise, bars on bars, but we are not rhyming for the sake of riddling, as the great Chuck D might say. This song is a call to action. It’s a prayer. It’s a manifesto.”

He also spoke about hosting SNL, telling the publication:

“I can’t recall seeing a more hip-hop, a more independent group than Black Star to ever do SNL, so I’m definitely excited to represent for the culture.”

Check out the video below. And buy tickets for the show here.
