RZA Drops A New Single, Announces Kung Fu Movie Screening Series

RZA will reveal more information about the album during his Saturday screening of Heroes of the East.

On the heels of his guest appearance on the Method Man-Redman 4/20 Verzuz battle, the all-everything musician known as the RZA has more news to announce. On Wednesday, the 51-year-old released "Pugilism," his first single under the alias Bobby Digital in 13 years.

The track will appear on his fourth album Bobby Digital: Digital Potions. In addition to the new album, RZA is relaunching his 36 Cinema film screening series, Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater.

The series screened classic kung fu films and blaxploitation classics with live commentary from guests like Michael Jai White, Donnell Rawlings, and Jim Jarmusch. Stunt actress Shaina West and martial artist Scott Adkins of The Bourne Ultimatum and Zero Dark Thirty also joined the show during its first round of programming. The Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art, as well as Queens' Museum of the Moving Image assisted in the process.

RZA recently spoke about the late DMX in an interview with Ebro Darden, where he compared X to fellow Wu-Tang member Ol' Dirty Bastard. "I don't like to compare artist to artist, but if I was to compare energy as far as realness and rawness, I’d have to compare him to [Ol’ Dirty Bastard]. It was real, it wasn’t fabricated. When I had the chance to meet the brother, his spirit, his purity, it’s just pure. I just caught a spine tingle right there just thinking about his purity.”

At 9PM Eastern Time on Saturday, April 24th, RZA will host a screening of the Shaw Brothers' film Heroes of the East. During the film, he will reveal more details on Pugilism. The album will be his first solo album since 2008's Digi Snacks.
