Netflix Launches “Short Ass Movies” Section After Pete Davidson & Gunna ‘SNL’

Along with Saturday Night Live musical guest Gunna, Pete Davidson joined Simon Rex and Chris Redd for “Short-Ass Movies” skit about Netflix.

Pete Davidson is moving on from his feud with Kanye West. On Saturday, the Saturday Night Live cast member joined recent musical guest Gunna, actor-comedian Simon Rex and fellow SNL cast mate Chris Redd as they rapped about Netflix making a “Short-Ass Movies” section.

“These days, when I sit down to watch a movie, I can find just about anything in the world,” Davidson says in the opening of the musical sketch. “But night after night, there’s only one kind of movie I’m always looking for, and that’s a short ass movie.” The comedian then raps about having a short attention span designated for films that are “like, at most, an hour-forty.”

Gunna jumps in, hilariously referencing his recent single “pushin P” from new album Drip Season 4Ever. “I’m not pushin P unless it’s under two hours/ Like Lion King or Bad Moms or all three Austin Powers,” he raps, appearing in the Netflix slides for each film.

Later in the sketch, Rex asks Davidson how long his 2020 film The King of Staten Island was. “Oh, it was, uh … two hours and 17 minutes,” Davidson says. “But we needed all those minutes.”

On Monday, Netflix quoted-tweeted the sketch, saying “good idea” with a surprise link.

In response to SNL, Netflix made a “Short-Ass Movies” section on their platform, comprised of under 90-minutes films like Anaconda, The Lovebirds, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and more.

Currently in his eighth season of SNL, Davidson is set to portray a fictionalized version of himself in upcoming series Bupkis. While the series has yet to land a streaming platform or network channel, it’s been pitched to Prime Video and Peacock, who have allegedly shown interest, per Deadline.
