Heavy is the head that wears the crown. During Glastonbury Festival on Sunday, Kendrick Lamar concluded the festival with a special set where he wore a custom diamond-encrusted crown of thorns made by Tiffany & Co. Before giving a statement on women’s rights and the overturn of Roe v. Wade onstage, the rapper spoke with The Unknown Vlogs and revealed that the crown was worth a whopping $3 million. Lamar also shared that he was wearing unreleased Louis Vuitton clothing, which comes less than a week after he attended and performed at the Louis Vutton Spring/Summer 2023 show in Paris.
With 50 thorns, the crown was designed with over 8,000 cobblestone micro pavé diamonds, consisting of more than 137 carats. Before the piece was finished in Italy, 1,300 hours to be assembled by four craftsman and designed over 10 months.
“I wear this [crown] as a representation so you’ll never forget one of the greatest prophets to ever walk the Earth,” Kendrick told the Glastonbury crowd during his set. “We gon’ continue to try our best to walk in his image.”
“The crown is a godly representation of hood philosophies told from a digestible youthful lens,” pgLang co-founder Dave Free told British Vogue.
Tiffany & Co.’s Alexandre Arnault added, “Kendrick Lamar represents the artistry, risk-taking creativity and relentless innovation that has also defined Tiffany & Co. for nearly two centuries. We are proud and incredibly excited to work with a visionary like Kendrick in realising his vision for the crown.”
During Glastonbury Festival, Lamar performed cuts from his latest album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, including “United in Grief,” “N95,” “Count Me Out,” “Silent Hill” and “Savior.”
