Lamar accepted the award at Columbia University in New York on Wednesday for his latest album Damn. After receiving a standing ovation, the Top Dawg Entertainmentartist offered a brief speech where he said: "It's an honor. Been writing my whole life, so to get this type of recognition is beautiful."

As the narrator in the Facebook livestream notes, Lamar is the "first non-jazz, non-classical music winner of the music category."

Back when the Pulitzer Board announced Lamar as a recipient of the award, it described Damn. as the following on its website:

"Recording released on April 14, 2017, a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."

Lamar's award acceptance happens around the 53:29 mark.

Lamar is currently on the TDE Championship Tour. Prior to that, he had a performance in Alabama that became really awkward when he brought a white fan onstage to perform "M.A.A.D City" with him. While rapping the song the fan said the n-word multiple times throughout the performance.
