Ice Cube is Speaking on a Right-Wing Zionist Virtual Panel

Another day, another confusing political move from Ice Cube.

It's been a weird few months forIce Cube. After coming under fire for posting anti-Semitic memes back in June, he's placed himself in another precarious position regarding the Jewish faith. On Thursday, JTA News staffer Shira Hanau announced that Cube would be speaking at the (virtual) annual Superstar Gala for the Zionist Organization of America, a right-wing American non-profit.

“Shout out to Mort Klein who had the courage to seek the truth and speak with me and see for himself I am obviously NOT an anti-Semite or racist,” Cube tweeted back in July. “I admire him for the advocacy of his people and look forward to talking more on how Black and Jewish communities can work together.”

"What the fuck is wrong with Ice Cube?" wrote Nima Shirazi of the Citations Needed podcast. "Did playing a million cops in movies turn him into one?"

Cube likely believes this appearance could help relations between Black and Jewish communities, but the ZOA espouses mostly right-wing tenets. The group supports Donald Trump's Muslim travel ban, opposes Palestinian statehood, and even opposes a two-state compromise between the two nations. Additionally, Israel has bombed and occupied Palestinian land for decades.

Activists like Malcolm X and Angela Davis spoke out in support of Palestinian rights for decades. In 2015, Davis, Cornel West, Mumia Abu-Jamal and Talib Kweli signed the Black Solidarity Statement with Palestine. Recently, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute rescinded a human rights award for Davis due to her support of the movement to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Israel.
