Funk Flex Shares Top 50 Living MCs List, Puts Drake In Top Five Despite Having "Questionable Pen"

Funk Flex Shares Top 50 Living MCs List, Puts Drake In Top Five Despite Having "Questionable Pen" Photo by Karwai Tang/WireImage

Drake wasn't the only rapper to get a "questionable pen" marker on the list either.

Just as we thought that we'd gotten a break from celebrities and notable figures in hip-hop sharing their top rapper lists, Funk Flex has made a list of his own.

Focused on the top 50 living MCs, Flex chose his list based on "skill level (bars)," "body of work" and "impact." Most of his top five is pretty safe (Jay-Z, Andre 3000, Nas, Rakim) except for who he places at the number five spot — Drake. It's worth noting that he marked the Canadian rapper with a "questionable pen" marker, which is likely a reference to his alleged use of ghostwriters for his music.

Drake wasn't the only one to be branded with a questionable pen descriptor though. Kanye West, who Flex placed at number 17, also received the marker.

Drake has previously spoken about ghostwriter claims against him. In a 2015 interview with the Fader, he said:

"I need, sometimes, individuals to spark an idea so that I can take off running. I don't mind that," he said. "If I have to be the vessel for this conversation to be brought up — you know, God forbid we start talking about writing and references and who takes what from where — I'm OK with it being me. It's just, music at times can be a collaborative process, you know? Who came up with this, who came up with that — for me, it's like, I know that it takes me to execute every single thing that I've done up until this point. And I'm not ashamed."
