Wednesday marked the 24th anniversary of the tragic death of the Notorious B.I.G. In honor of the fallen legend, Fat Joe hosted Swizz Beatz and Timbaland on an Instagram Live broadcast. Joe revealed that he was in the process of making an album with Biggie at the time of his death. According to Joe, most of the records were Tupac disses that would never be released.
Timbaland spoke about indirectly working with Tupac, and leaving the Vibe Awards afterparty with Ginuwine around the time Biggie was fatally shot.
“You know I say stuff, Tim, and they always say I lie or I say too much,” Joe said. “You know I worked on an album with Biggie? We cut about five songs together. He was like, ‘You the Latino don, I’m the Black don.’ And we was in that studio going crazy. It’s verified by Puff Daddy and everybody. I’ma keep it real – at the time, we were dissing Tupac a lot and all that and so that should have never seen the light of day. Which is respectfully so, because you know they both passed on. But yeah, I worked with the B.I.G. for real.”
Back in January, Swizz and Timbaland proposed the idea of a Verzuz battle celebration of Tupac and Biggie. The series will make its debut on the Triller Network with a battle between Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, currently set for March 20th.
