Dave Chappelle has pulled the plug on another set of dates due to COVID-19. And this time, he’s the vector.
According to TMZ, a rep for the comedian has confirmed Chappelle tested positive for the coronavirus last night, triggering the cancelation of a string of show in Austin, TX scheduled for this week. Chappelle had already performed the first of five shows at Stubbs’ Amphitheatre on Wednesday night. Tickets to the shows on the remaining four nights of the week (two of which featured co-headline performances from Joe Rogan,) have been refunded. The report also claims Chappelle is now in quarantine and has yet to experience any symptoms. But it’s unclear whether the comedian intends to reschedule these dates in the weeks and months ahead.
Earlier this week, Chappelle was photographed with Rogan, Elon Musk, and Grimes, who claimed to have contracted the virus just last week. The singer has come under fire in the days since for making public appearances despite testing positive for COVID-19. On Instagram, Rogan shot down rumors of Grimes being the one to pass the virus on to Chappelle. “Because people are asking, I was not exposed to the person who had covid and I have tested negative every day this week. Also, the person that gave covid to Dave was NOT Elon’s partner, Grimes,” Rogan writes.
Over the summer, Chappelle was forced to shut down his socially-distanced comedy show series in Ohio “Due to possible exposure to COVID-19 within our inner circle.” The outdoor events had a fairly strict protocol, mandating testing upon entry for attendees and sitting them at least six-feet apart from one another. Those shows drew marquee comedians to the stage, including Chris Rock, Bill Burr, Tiffany Haddish, and even Louis C.K, offering a redemptive opportunity to the disgraced performer.
