DaBaby Says He Doesn’t Know Questlove After Drummer Condemns His Homophobic Comments

Maybe DaBaby doesn’t remember when Questlove backed him on drums during his 2019 Tonight Show performance.

DaBaby is claiming that he doesn’t know who Questlove is after The Roots drummer condemned his homophobic comments. Quest took to Instagram Wednesday night, where he shared an image of a dream roster he made for an updated Summer of Soul lineup that included DaBaby’s name crossed out.

“I’m not trine be all performative smurf & create a social flogging or start some click bait headlines. That’s missing the point. But right is right & his actions are wrong,” Quest wrote. “Somebody Gotta say it: Homophobia/Transphobia/Xenophobia/Misogyny/Racism——this should go w/o saying is morally wrong.”

“…Again I’m not doing this for ‘what do you want a cookie bro w your ‘love ye one another’ posts?——-black people already have a code about publicly criticizing so I’ll admit i was slow to do this because I mean he don’t know me from Adam,” he said elsewhere in the post. “So this will prolly get marked as ‘old hater’ territory. But man…..that shit was not cool at all.”

In response to his post, DaBaby shared Quest’s post on Instagram Stories, writing: “I ain’t even tryna be funny when I say… I do not know who dis n—a is dawg & do not care about loosing [sic] you as a fan my boy lol… This superstar you was a fan of is stand up n—a, Yeen never seen one of these huh?”

As Rolling Stone pointed out, it’s a little surprising that DaBaby claimed he doesn’t know Quest, considering the drummer backed him during his Tonight Show performance in 2019, as others on social media have pointed out.

Quest is one of a number of celebrities that have spoken out against DaBaby after he said homophobic comments during his recent Rolling Loud performance. Even Elton John addressed the rapper’s comments, saying: “We’ve been shocked to read about the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show… This fuels stigma and discrimination and is the opposite of what our world needs to fight the AIDS epidemic.”
