“I Have Refused to Be Honest For Too Long”: Crazy Legs Responds to Sexual Misconduct Allegations

A petition accuses Crazy Legs of sending lewd photos to young women.

After the official announcement that breaking would become an Olympic sport in the 2024 Paris Games, Richard “Crazy Legs” Colon of the world-famous Rock Steady Crew expressed his desire to be included in the Games. On Tuesday, however, youth in the breaking community launched a petition that could jeopardize that. The petition, started by an anonymous BBoy and BGirl, alleges Colon of ongoing and unchecked sexual harassment.

“Founder of Rock Steady Crew Richard Colón (a.k.a. Crazy Legs) has been using his power of influence to sexually harass women,” the petition reads. “Not only so, this behavior has gone on for a long time without being checked. He has failed to take accountability for his actions, and the Bboy/Bgirl community needs to take action! This man should not be involved with Red Bull or Olympics, as he is a proven sexual predator.”

Colon replied to the accusations on Instagram, saying he blames his depression and a general lack of accountability.

“What I’m going through is necessary and good for me,” he wrote. “I have refused to be honest for myself for too long. I haven’t admitted or discuss with people around me the things that lead me into depression. I’ve always thought my symptoms were the problem, when it was me not wanting to admit that I was in a deep depression and had a fear of looking weak by sharing it with others who would be supportive and helpful.”

The petition’s writers aren’t buying his explanation, adding a response to Crazy Legs’ statement. “Richard has made a statement claiming he is glad he was caught, and states the cause of his behavior is due to depression,” they wrote. “Depression has no medical evidence to cause you to send pictures of your genitals to women. Evidence shows a lack of motivation to do things, even sexually related.”

Red Bull has yet to make a statement in response.
