Cardi B isn’t taking kindly to Rolling Stone listing her debut album Invasion of Privacy at No. 16 on their 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time list. The “Hot Shit” rapper appeared on Angela Yee-hosted podcast Lip Service, where she addressed her 2018’s album inclusion on the list, which generated controversy on social media. At No. 1 on the list was The Notorious B.I.G.‘s 1994 debut album Ready to Die.
“They was dragging me like ‘How dare them put Cardi before Nas.’ … I was like, oh my goodness. I just woke up and I’m getting my ass dragged,” Cardi said near the 52-minute mark.
Despite backlash the Invasion of Privacy ranking received, Cardi reminded listeners of the Grammy-winning album’s impact.
She added, “I understand that but it’s like, b*tch, I ain’t motherf**king ask for it,” she said. “You know, I understand that people feel a certain type of way. But don’t try to disrespect me or my work or my album because your mother was listening to my sh*t, your b*tch was driving, listening to f**king ‘Be Careful.’ All y’all b*tches, all y’all h*es. So it’s like, don’t even try it.”
Cardi shared more about the list’s rankings to ensure that it would “start a stir,” adding that she’s observed these “recipes” before and that she was made to be the “punching bag.”
“Yeah, it was, like, a setup. … Rolling Stone, you trying to set me up,” Cardi said around the 54:35 mark. “You got my ass dragged on a fucking Tuesday for no reason.”
Later in the conversation, Cardi clapped back at those who criticized her No. 16 ranking, standing by her debut album.
“I understand where y’all coming from. … But at the end of the day, like, don’t drag my shit,” she said. “Don’t fucking disrespect my craft.”
Cardi last released new single “Hot Shit” featuring Ye and Lil Durk last Friday (July 1).
