Big Sean Reflects on Mental Health Struggles on “Deep Reverence” Ft. Nipsey Hussle

On the track, Big Sean digs into his morals, his obligations to provide for his family, and his battles with depression.

Big Sean has released “Deep Reverence” his first single off his upcoming fifth studio album Detroit 2 featuring Nipsey Hussle

Last night, a fan asked about the single on Twitter and Big Sean decided to drop it directly following this interaction. Nipsey’s opening verse featuring his signature voice rings off poetically. In it he recalls his earlier years in Crenshaw: “I was birthed in a C-section/Hella cops and police presence, we got opps so we keep weapons.”

Throughout the Hit-Boy and G. Roy-produced track, Big Sean digs into his morals, the blessings that have come into his life over the years, his obligations to provide for his family, and touches on Nipsey’s untimely death. He also touches on reaching out to Kendrick Lamar in the past and divulges that Jhene Aiko had a miscarriage. On Lamar, he says, “Lack of communication and wrong information/From people fueled by their ego, it’s like mixin’ flames with diesel.”

One poignant moment in the track includes Sean reminiscing on meditating daily before he shares this, he reflects on struggling with mental health issues. The song closes with an old Nipsey interview where he talks about wanting to collaborate on a song with Sean.

On Monday, Big Sean shared that Detroit 2 will be released on September 4.  His last album, I Decided which arrived in 2017 was equipped with features by Jeremih, Eminem, Migos, and The-Dream.
