Pass The Popcorn : Quincy Jones' 'Keep On Keeping On' Documentary Is A Sure-Shot Oscar Nominee

Months ago, I had the distinct pleasure of catching an early glimpse of Quincy Jones' sprawling exploration of the life and legacy of legendary jazz trumpeter Clark Terry and his prodigious piano-playing protegé Justin Kauflin in the documentary Keep On Keeping On. Now it appears that the film has made its way to the short-list in the Oscar discussion, joining 14 other prestigious films being considered for the Academy's nod, including stand-outs like The Internet's Own BoyArt And Craft and others. However, it will be the lone music-oriented doc considered, but that's no strike against the film, as the last two years have seen sensational music docs like 20 Feet From Stardom and Searching For Sugar Man take home the golden bald guy with ease. We'll have to wait until January 15th for the official nomination announcement, but if you've got a head on your shoulders and ears on that head, you'll go and get familiar stat. If you need an extra push, check out the trailer for the Quincy Jones-produced documentary Keep On Keeping On below and stay tuned as we creep up on Oscar season and the imminent debate over whether the panel called it correctly.
