Over the years, Discogs has proven to be one of the most vibrant online forums, both informational and commercial, for vinyl records. One could make the case that no other service--save eBay--currently plays a bigger role in the digital vinyl marketplace, and now Discogs is making the leap (finally) from our laptop screens to mobile devices far and wide.

Just as Vinyl Factory reports, early 2016 will see the release of the Discogs iOS and Android app. The new technological leap will allow users to keep their digital stash handy at all times, as well as peruse what's on sale across the vinyl marketplace. Wantlists, along with Discogs's massive music database will also be literally on hand thanks to the app.

The bad news? No purchase options. At least not yet. The Discogs app won't allow users to buy the records they seek out right from their smartphone, meaning that you'll have to log on to a laptop in order to finish a transaction. Later versions of the app may come to include this feature, but for now, you'll have to keep your credit card stashed away. The vision of vinyl heads digging through crates in real life, then pulling out their phone to purchase a record for discount via the Discogs app is surely one we're not wild about, but the future is now, and this is likely where we're headed.
