De La Soul Banksy Feel Good Inc Damon Albarn Dismaland
Gorillaz and Blur frontman Damon Albarn joined hip-hop legends De La Soul on stage at Banksy'sDismaland Friday night to perform "Feel Good Inc." The moment took place during what was the final night of musical entertainment at Dismaland--the last item on a roster that brought Massive Attack, Run the Jewels and many more to perform at the UK art site.
And it all makes perfect sense. "Feel Good Inc" tells the story of a corrupt corporation that supplies a hapless citizenry with bunk entertainment. It lobotomizes and anesthetizes them to the point where they can't even notice their own city crumbling around them (we're just getting this from our old school notes, promise). To put it another way--joy has been reduced to a stale product, and is being sold back to us at discount prices. What a world. Dismaland, a sprawling morbid parody of the world's more cheery and saccharine amusement parks, is the perfect site for such a song. It's almost as if Banksy was a ghostwriter behind the tune to begin with. Who knows.
