foisey. - Byrds

Following a grip of loosies and self-released projects, Connecticut producer Foisey. celebrates the official release of his formal debut Byrds, out now via Street Corner Music. As one might expect, the 20-track instrumental project comes with a glowing recommendation from House Shoes.

"Foisey's music got into my hands thru Mutant Academy. I became aware of these RVA kids last year and told them to send a pack. What initially stood out was the beats from Foisey, a young cat from Connecticut. He kept sending packs and I put together a dope collection of his instrumentals. Laid back vibes with a punch. You won't be disappointed.”

Matthew Law - LIVE @ Sway In The Morning

Matthew Law is back in the mix with Sway In The Morning for his return to SiriusXM. A short interview precedes the uptempo guest set, which finds Law — as always — putting on for the City of Brotherly Love.

On Thursday, June 29th, I made my Sirius XM debut as the featured guest DJ for Sway In The Morning on Shade 45. It was my first time catching up with Sway since he interviewed me on RapFix (his former talk show on MTVJams) and nice to link again with the legendary host & Hip-Hop icon. Big thanks to my friend and resident DJ/Host for Sway In The Morning, DJ Wonder, for the plug. I rarely get to do radio appearances, so this was a huge deal! Very, very grateful.

Chris Read - Mecca & The Soul Brother 25th Anniversary Mixtape

DJ Chris Read is back in the mix for WhoSampled and Wax Poetics to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Pete Rock & C. L. Smooth’s seminal 1992 Mecca & The Soul Brother LP.

Among the many greats of hip hop's golden era currently celebrating their 25th year, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's debut long player 'Mecca & the Soul Brother' is rightly considered a standout - frequently lauded as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. The album owes its distinctive sound in no small part to the eclectic and inspired choice of sample material. In addition to drawing on sampled staples popularised in the late 80s (James Brown, The J.B.'s), the album references jazz heavily and was pioneering in its use of layered samples, creating coherent tracks from small snippets of multiple disparate sources. In keeping with tradition, we've teamed up with Wax Poetics to present this exclusive mixtape of album tracks, remixes, and of course original sample material, mixed by Chris Read
