BET To Air 'Barack Obama's Block Party' Ft. The Roots, Dave Chappelle, Usher & More Obamas

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obamawere honored at an event held by BET titled BET Presents Love & Happiness: An Obama Celebration.The star studded (and very black minus Bradley Cooper) event was hosted byTerrence J and Regina Hall. The list of performers includedThe Roots,Usher,Janelle Monae,Leslie Odom Jr.,Common,De La Soul,Jill Scott,Bell Biv DeVoe,Yolanda Adams,Michelle Williams,and Kiki Sheard. On last week's episode of Saturday Night Live, Dave Chappelle referenced the event, remarking it was "a really, really beautiful night." Chappelle then spoke on the White House's past relationship with black people, (it was built by slaves) and how at an earlier time in American history African-Americanswere shunned from the premises. He cited a story about PresidentAbraham Lincoln having to escort abolitionistFredrick Douglass, the first black person to officially be invited to the White House, personally in due toDouglass being barred entrance at the gate.The Love & Happiness celebrationwas the last musical evening hosted by the outgoing President.
