The Met Gala returned on Monday, May 4, and fashion’s biggest night featured no shortage of surprises and style. Superstars were on hand for the annual invite-only fundraiser, including Beyoncé – who made her return to the Met Gala alongside her husband JAŸ-Z and daughter Blue Ivy — and Rihanna drew attention with a fashionably late entrance. The gala was to benefit the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City – and it raised a staggering, record-breaking $42 million.

This year's theme was "Costume Art" for the spring exhibit and corresponding "Fashion Is Art" dress code for the star-studded red carpet, which celebrated "the centrality of the dressed body.”

Beyoncé rocked a diamond and silver-encrusted Olivier Rousteing gown, while Naomi Osaka’s outfit change into a “human anatomy” inspired look was the talk of the evening, as was Teyana Taylor’s icy silver ensemble. Doechii hit the carpet in a Marc Jacobs-designed burgundy dress while barefoot, for a distinctive approach to the glamorous evening, and Heidi Klum transformed into a living sculpture, with an eye-catching outfit created by Mike Marino. Colman Domingo wore Boucheron jewels with a colorful two-piece ensemble by Valentino and an Omega watch.
