Russell Wilson and Ciara are making a major contribution to Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital in New York City. ABC-7 reports the New York Giants quarterback and the pop/R&B star are making a $3 million contribution through their Why Not You Foundation. The funding is expected to help create new therapeutic play and creative arts spaces for pediatric patients.
“You know, my dad was unfortunately always in the hospital, he had diabetes. My mom was an ER nurse when I was growing up. So, for me, I felt like, how I could make a difference somewhere," Wilson explained during an appearance on Good Morning America.
The donation will also help to improve the hospital’s common area — where patients are free to engage in therapeutic and creative activities as a break from doctors and treatments — as well as the children’s holiday shop.
Wilson visits the Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital on the Upper East Side every Tuesday.
"Russell and I are so honored and humbled to support the incredible work happening at Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital,” Ciara said in a statement. “Giving back through partnerships like this is a dream for us.
"Our mission with the Why Not You Foundation has always been to open doors and create spaces where young people feel supported and inspired. We’re beyond blessed to help expand these therapeutic environments so children and their families can experience moments of joy, creativity, and healing when they need it most."
“I want [the kids] to be inspired,” Wilson said on GMA. “And I want them to take their mind a little bit off of the pain they’re going through.
“It’s probably been the greatest thing I’ve been able to do in my career so far,” he added. “It’s better than any touchdown or any trophy.”
