Russell Wilson is addressing speculation about his mindset and possible future with the New York Giants. Newsweek reports the New York quarterback addressed reporters after interim head coach Mike Kafka decided to give the week 11 start to Jameis Winston.
“I want to see it through. I haven’t asked for my release or anything like that. I want to be here,” Wilson told reporters. “I still want to keep playing football. I love it, obviously, and I feel like I still got it.”
Wilson was also candid about Winston after Jameis got the start on Sunday.
"Obviously, I want to play, but Jameis has worked his butt off to give him a great opportunity. He's a guy that's played in this league for a long time and he's one of my closest friends."
Wilson began the 2025 season as starting quarterback before rookie Jaxson Dart took over following week three. When Dart suffered a head injury during the team's loss to the Chicago Bears, now-former Giants head coach Brian Daboll inserted Russell Wilson as the quarterback replacement. But Wilson is making it clear that his current role shift isn’t causing any behind-the-scenes drama. When asked about his NFL future, Wilson got biblical.
"My favorite scripture is Matthew 6:33,” he shared. “It's my life philosophy, I would say. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added on to you. Verse 34 says don't worry about tomorrow.”
On Sunday, Nov. 16, Winston made his first start in 11 months against the Green Bay Packers and Mike Kafka debuted as interim coach after the firing of Brian Daboll.
The Giants (2-9) lost their fifth game in a row.
