The Round-Up: Best Songs of The Week – feat. Little Dragon, Ella Mai, Quavo, and More [Playlist]

The Round-Up returns with a full bag of heat

Happy Friday, folks. This week’s release day roster is a deceptively deep one; brimming with trap trimmings and psychedelics galore. So let’s get right to it.

A big day for debuts, Migos head honcho, Quavo, fissured off with a studded solo debut, featuring all stars in the ATLien sky (and even a few satellite talents,) Ella Mai, the 23-year-old singer who captured the collective summers of two years (and running?) with “Boo’ed Up,” finally releasing her long-awaited self-titled full-length, Stones Throw’s Jerry Paper floating in with the tripped-out and delicate suites of Like a Baby, and Francofunkateers, Parcels, who follow up a pair of rare Daft Punk collaborations with their own titular full-length.

Other albums out today and worth your ear include Usher and Zaytoven‘s surprise hometown salute, A, Shy Glizzy‘s aptly-titled post-“Crew” project, Fully Loaded, Matthew Dear‘s oscillating and hypnotic, Bunny, and Connan Mockasin‘s sedated psych set, Jassbusters.

The week’s loosies signal new album o’clock for Little Dragon (sharing the Detroit house dipped “Lover Chanting,”) Mick Jenkins (reuniting with Kaytranada on the waves-for-days special “Understood,”) Anderson .Paak‘s band The Free Nationals (stepping out with Daniel Caesar and Unknown Mortal Orchestra on the seductive, “Get You” adjacent, “Beauty & Essex”) and the incomparable Mariah Carey (in vintage form on the soft knock of “With You.”) New singles from Sampha, Jarami, LOWfi, and MihTy, fill out the week’s sequence.

You can hear it all in a new installment of The Round-Up below. Hit the link to subscribe to Okayplayer’s Spotify channel, where the heat is never summer-dependant.
