Trump Gets Lawyer With Bill Cosby Ties After Losing Entire Impeachment Team

All five of the lawyers who were expected to represent Donald Trump resigned just over a week before his impeachment trial.

Amid losing his entire impeachment team just over a week before his trial is set to start, Donald Trump has hired two new lawyers to defend him, one of which has ties to Bill Cosby.

In a report from Newsweek, Bruce Castor is one of the lawyers now representing Trump in his second impeachment trial. During his time as Montgomery County District Attorney in Pennsylvania, Castor failed to prosecute Cosby for the sexual assault of Andrea Constand. Althoug he personally believed Cosby should have been arrested, he claimed at the time that “insufficient, credible, and admissible evidence exists upon which any charge against Mr. Cosby could be sustained beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Years later, Castor shared that he had verbally offered Cosby an immunity deal where he declined to prosecute the entertainer in criminal court so that Constand would be able to sue him in civil court.

The other lawyer hired alongside Castor is David Schoen, who was going to join Jeffrey Epstein’s defense team on sex trafficking charges just days before he died of suicide in a New York jail. The two issued statements through Trump’s office.

“The strength of our Constitution is about to be tested like never before in our history. It is strong and resilient. A document written for the ages, and it will triumph over partisanship yet again, and always,” Castor said.

On February 8, Trump will be addressing charges related to his alleged role in inciting the insurrection that took place that took place at the Capitol Building on January 6. The five lawyers who were initially representing him parted ways amid a disagreement over his legal strategy.

Trump was first impeached back in December 2019 but was acquitted on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of congress.
