Throwback Thursday: Divine Beings f/ Black Thought - "We Can Get Fly"

Our Throwback Thursday this week takes the form of a Black Thought cameo courtesy of Milwaukee's Dope Folks records, who you may recall from their archival release of other 90s goodness, includingLord Aaqil x The Square Roots. In this case Thought is guesting on "We Can Get Fly" from Divine Beings--another progressive Philly rap crew from the 90s, who are getting their own 6-track archival release on Dope Folks (scroll down for tracklisting), limited to 300 vinyl copies for the serious heads only.

Kenny White who describes himself as "manager and financier of the Divine Beings during the recording of the tracks that make up this compilation" provides some backstory on the crew and the session, not to mention these crucial #TBT photos of Thought with Malik B of The RootsAir Smooth & Andrea Da Gr8 of Divine Beings:

"Well Shawn "Air Smooth" White and Tariq "Black Thought" Trotter were best friends and they remained friends until Shawn passed last year. Tariq would usually hang out with Shawn during some of the Divine Being sessions and I believe on this particular session the decided that Tariq would lend his vocal talents to the track. As I remember this particular track was recorded in a home studio in West Philadelphia sometime in 94/95. Shawn and Tariq both lived in South Philadelphia and I believe it was their common interest in hip-hop [that] may have brought them together.

The photographs were taken at an event where we were all the Silk City Lounge in the Northern Liberties section of Philly."
