Pass The Popcorn: Join The Obamas On Their First Date In The 'Southside With You' Trailer

The 'Southside With You' Trailer Follows The Obamas' First Date

This August, we'll see the release of the charming new biopic, Southside With You, which chronicles the very first date of Barack & Michelle Obama. Today, an official trailer has arrived for the film, detailing the awkward initial exchange, as well as how their affection unfurled over the course of day-long date, that didn't exactly start on a romantic note. The film takes place in the summer of 1989 and is helmed by director, Richard Tanne, with Parker Sawyers and Tika Sumpter starring as the president and First Lady to be, respectively. Watch the full trailer for Southside With You down below and peep the film's official synopsis while you're are it. We'll have our ears to the ground for an official release date, so be sure to check back in the weeks and months ahead.

“Inspired by Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date, Southside With You recounts the eventful summer day in 1989 when a young law firm associate named Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) tried to woo lawyer Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) during a daylong date that took them from the Art Institute of Chicago to a screening of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing to the site of their first kiss outside of an ice cream parlor.”
