Watch Solange Debut Her Baltimore & Ferguson Tribute "Rise" Live In LA

Over the last year, in response to the countless murders of black men, women and children by our nation’s law enforcement, there has been an outpouring poignant and powerful anthems of unrest. Last night, Solange arose as the latest to pen such a track, performing her own tribute to those lives lost in the struggle during a recent appearance in Los Angeles for the Bessie 81 theater tour.

While the audio is quite murky, “Rise” -- at least in principle-- finds Solange following in the footsteps of Prince in its dedication to the continued battle for the lives of our nation’s youth, most recently touched by the murder of 25-year-old Freddie Gray and Baltimore's subsequent uprising in the wake of that loss and so many others. It's a breezy, delicate, slightly funk-touched number with a lovely vocal take from young Knowles and whirls of synthesizers that seep into and then bleed out of the track. There's yet to be any word on an official release of the song in any shape or form, but you can expect to it land in the weeks and months to come (hopefully not as a TIDAL exclusive.) You can watch Solange perform "Rise" below and tune into tomorrow night for the premiere of Bessie, starring Queen Latifah as the leading blues lady.
