Sango Reworks Janelle Monae's Contribution To The Forthcoming 'Rio 2' Soundtrack With "What Is Love" (Remix)

Sango reworks Janelle Monáe's shining contribution to the forthcoming soundtrack for Rio 2 - the impending sequel to the hit 2011 film from Blue Sky Studios - with the "What Is Love" (Remix). The remix follows the release of the original samba-inspired track from The Electric Lady, which arrived at the top of the month ahead of the soundtrack's upcoming March 25th release date. The sufficiently rhythmic take from Sango preserves Monáe's homage to the monstrous percussion and infectious dance grooves at the foundation of Brazil's iconic sound. Instead of slashing and burning, Sango slows it down ever so slightly and introduces a few well placed synths. These changes combine with stripped down breaks in the percussion and a bit of filtering to brighten Janelle Monáe's irresistibly infectious vocal. Sango's latest foray into samba culture follows his recent love letter to Brazil with the release of the Da Rocinha 2 LP. Check the track below to listen to the "What Is Love" (Remix) from Sango. Catch Sango headlining Okayplayer and Soulection's SXSW showcase this Friday, March 14th at the Vulcan Gas Company in Austin, Texas. Sango will be sharing the bill with Emanon, Quantic, Mr. Carmack, ESTA, Lakim, DPAT and Christian Tiger School. Check Okayplayer's Complete Guide to SXSW for details. Pre-order the Rio 2 Soundtrack via iTunes and catch the film in theaters, beginning April 11th. Stay tuned for more.
