R. Kelly’s oldest daughter, Joann Lee Kelly, has spoken out against her father.
In a series of Instagram Stories, Joann Lee Kelly, who goes by the name Buki Abi, apologized for not being more vocal about her father, who she has been estranged from for years. She wrote that she is trying to process everything swirling around the release of the six-part docu-series Surviving R. Kelly:
I just want you all to understand that devastated is an understatement for all that I feel currently. I do apologize if my silence to all that is happening comes off as careless. That is my last intention. I pray for all the families & women who have been affected by my father’s action. Trust, I have been deeply affected by all of this. It has been very difficult to process it all. Let alone gather all the right words to express everything I feel.
While vague with details, Abi insinuated she had first-hand awareness of his alleged abusive tendencies, at one point calling him a “monster” and writing “I grew up in that house.”
The same monster you all confronting me about is my father. I am well aware of who and what he is. I grew up in that house. My choice to not speak on him and what he does is for my peace of mind. My emotional state. And for my healing. I have to do and move in a manner that is best for me. I pray anyone who reads this understands I put nothing but good intent behind each word.
Buki Abi is one of three kids R. Kelly had with ex-wife Andrea Kelly, who was featured prominently in the doc. All three kids are allegedly estranged from R. Kelly. Read her entire statement below. (Coursey of Baller Alert.)
