Chicago’s G.O.O.D. ass year continues with the arrival of Noname‘s debut mixtape project, Telefone. Her off-the-cuff spoken-word delivery has been prominently featured on recent albums from Chance The Rapper, Donnie Trumpet, Kirk Knight as well as Jamila Woods‘ breakout piece Heavn, but today the Windy City native is stepping into the limelight with her very own piece, and it features some of her city’s brightest talents.
Telefone features production credits from Saba, theMIND and Cam O’bi, while the list of featured emcees and vocalists includes Eryn Allen Kane, Raury, Xavier Omär and a slew of others. Though hot takes aren’t worth much, first ear reveals a distinctively gospel and soul soaked palette, with standouts like “Sunny Duet” and “Reality Check” sounding like SA-RA outtakes, in the best of ways. You can stream Noname’s debut full-length project Telefone in its entirety down below for the low, low price of free ninety-nine. There appears to be more still arriving from Chicago’s wellspring in the weeks and months ahead with new projects from Saba and Mick Jenkins en route, so be sure to keep your ear to the ground for more.
