Nas made a recent appearance on Charlie Rose to discuss the 20th anniversary of his seminal Illmatic LP and the recent Time Is Illmatic documentary about the project directed by One9 and Eric Parker. Their discussion is the latest news from the Queens MC since the film’s debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in April and Tribeca’s subsequent acquisition of the rights to the film, which is slated for an October 2014 release. This interview, which focuses primarily on the making of the documentary and a track by track discussion of Illmatic and it’s significance in hip-hop culture, is the most recent of the many ongoing parties, performances and talks in celebration of Nas’ groundbreaking debut. Nas talks both about his initial reluctance to participate in the making of the film and what the film and album mean to him now. Check the footage below to watch the interview. Purchase the Illmatic XX LP via iTunes. Stay tuned for more from Nas.
