One of the biggest country hits of the year gets acknowledged by the CMA Awards.

Earlier this year, Billboard removed Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" from its Hot Country Songs chart, claiming that although "incorporates references to country and cowboy imagery, it does not embrace enough elements of today's country music to chart in its current version."

"...upon further review, it was determined that ‘Old Town Road’ by Lil Nas X does not currently merit inclusion on Billboard's country charts. When determining genres, a few factors are examined, but first and foremost is musical composition," Billboard had also stated at the time.

Now, the song is being recognized by the Country Music Association Awards (CMA Awards).

On Wednesday morning, a Twitter account for the CMA Awards shared that the rapper and Billy Ray Cyrus had won its Musical Event of the Year award for the pair's remix of "Old Town Road." In response to the news, Lil Nas X shared the tweet with the following caption: "LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

The Musical Event of the Year award was the only award the rapper and his hit song were nominated for. "Old Town Road" is the fastest song to become certified diamond by the RIAA. To reach this level, the track reached sales and streaming equivalent sales of 10,000,000 units.
