Pass The Popcorn: Janelle Monae & Naomie Harris Join Brad Pitt’s New Film ‘Moonlight’

Modern soul queen Janelle Monáe has signed on to the cast of Moonlight, a new film produced by Brad Pitt‘s production company Plan B Entertainment. Also joining the film is actress Naomie Harris, who recently took up the role of Eve Moneypenny in the ongoing franchise of James Bond films.

The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Andre Holland and Mahershala Ali (that’s Boggs from Hunger Games—and Remy Danton from House Of Cards, for those of you who haven’t drank the HOC kool-aid as yet -ed.) have also signed on to Moonlight, which is being directed by filmmaker Barry Jenkins and tells the story of “a young man who comes of age during “War on Drugs”-era Miami.” Moonlight is an adaptation of the play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue by 25-year-old dramatist Tarell McCraney, and production is currently underway in Miami.

Specific details on Monae and Harris’s roles are scarce, but the film will mark Janelle’s debut performance on the big screen, and given the r&b Q.U.E.E.N.’s penchant for theatrical performances and tight choreography, we can only presume that she’ll be in her element on set. Moonlight is slated for a fall 2016 release, with shooting taking place at press time. As more information on the film, Janelle Monáe’s specific role and other tidbits including trailers and BTS footage surfaces, you can bet we’ll be keeping you up to speed.
