Esperanza Spalding is joined by a host of musicians and friends in the official video for "We Are America" - a call for the closure of Guantánamo Bay. Spalding is joined by Harry Belafonte, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae and others in demanding human rights for the detainees - many of them being held indefinitely at the military prison without fair trials. She commented on her passion for the cause of freedom for the 164 prisoners being held at the U.S. base in Cuba during a recent chat with the Wall Street Journal:

“I don’t have any prison experience, but it’s really hard to fathom being imprisoned in a place against your will and not to be charged with anything, not to have the ability to defend yourself, and to be there indefinitely,”

Esperanza Spalding has dropped this clip in the hopes that it will educate and motivate people to call for change, whether that involves protest, peer education or a phone call to congressional leaders. Spalding noted that she was inspired to take action after learning of the hunger strike at the prison this year. Check the footage below to watch the video for "We Are America." Take a stand. Call the US Capitol Switchboard (1-202-224-3121) to connect you to your two US Senators and your Congressional Representative.

Tell them:

I am your constituent and I want you to support closing Guantanamo.

Indefinite detention and unfair trials are illegal, un-American and unnecessary.
