Last Friday, Common released his eleventh studio album, Black America Again. The album-- produced entirely by longtime friend and collaborator, Karriem Riggins -- bloomed out of what was initially intended to be a 5-track EP into what stands as a gorgeously impactful and politically-edged new piece. And what better way to celebrate than a party at NYC's legendary NuBlu, where, oddly enough, Riggins has been hosting his monthly Blend series.
And so, joined by hundreds of heads, plenty of good drink and smoke, Com blessed the mic with an impromptu set that was brief but nothing short of brilliant, punctuated by an a cappella performance of the off-kilter album standout "Pyramids," live and direct with DJ Dummy, DJ Spinna and Riggins all in tow. It was a righteous and particularly raucous moment for all in attendance, so we made sure to capture a sliver of that magic for all of you to rock with. Peep Common's performance down below and if you've yet to pick up your copy of Black America Again, pick up your copy on iTunes today or stream it via Spotify.
