The incident took place in April when Sarah Webb was pulled over by officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson. Brown had tagged Webb for speeding as well as reckless driving since the roads were wet. The officer then took to Wilson to ask her what she should do, according to bodycam footage via 11 Alive.

After Brown notes that she doesn’t have speed detection on her and Wilson adds that she doesn’t have any tickets, the following conversation between the two cops occurs as Brown proceeds to open a coin flip app on her phone.

Officer Brown: “OK (sound of coin flip) laugh.”

Officer Wilson: “This is tail right?”

Officer Brown: “Yeah. So release?”

Officer Wilson: “23 (code for arrest).”

Officer Brown: “Michael Jordan? (laugh). Alright, so I’ve got too fast (laugh) for conditions, reckless..”

The pair proceeds to arrest Webb who is completely unaware that her fate was decided by a virtual coin flip.

Webb didn’t learn of the coin flip until investigators for 11 Alive contacted her.

“Wow, these people put my freedom in the hands of a coin flip,” she said. “And that’s disgusting.”

Although the incident took place back in April, Roswell police didn’t put Brown and Wilson on administrative leave until 11Alive started asking questions two months later. An internal affairs investigation is already underway.
