Rhymefest Says Common Hasn't Spoken to Him After Co-Writing “Glory”

“That’s Hollywood.”

Rhymefest has opened up about the status of a few of his closest industry relationships.

In an interview with the Associated Press via Billboard, the rapper, songwriter, and Chicago native revealed he and Common haven’t spoken since they collaborated on “Glory,” the Oscar and Grammy-award-winning collaborative single written by Common, Rhymefest and John Legend for the 2014 film Selma.

Rhymefest won a Grammy for Best Song Written For Visual Media but did not receive an award for his work on the song when it won an Oscar for Best Original Song at the 2015 Academy Awards.

In the interview, when asked if he’d spoken with Common since the win, he said, “Of course not. That’s Hollywood,” he said

He continued, bringing up his relationship with longtime collaborator Kanye West. “Because it’s different for me and Kanye. Kanye is like, he’s emotional. He’s emotionally involved and… if he knows there’s hurt, he’s like, “Aight, let’s deal with this hurt. What’s going on?” Other people are protecting their interests. I get it, but if they only knew. If you only knew how much love could grow if you give me a little authenticity? But that’s fine. I’m doing films. I’ll see you in a minute. Who knows what the universe has in store.”

Rhymefest has had moments of distance between Kanye as well.

Last year, he claimed Kanye West isn’t supporting the non-profit organization Donda’s House or Chicago youth and ended up in a quarrel with Kim Kardashian.

It seems they’ve reunited. Rhymefest appeared on Hot 97’s “Ebro In the Morning” this week and discussed his current relationship with Kanye, saying they hang out again, adding, “You can’t be friends with a man if you ain’t good with his wife.”

Last month, Rhymefest posted a clip to his Instagram account from a trailer for the new season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, writing, “Kim & I finally have our sit down talk. This should be interesting! #realfriends.”
