Master P Claims J. Cole is Getting Ready for an NBA Tryout

"He got the right size, he in the gym!"

Just a few weeks after announcing a new signature sneaker line with Puma, rumors are beginning to circulate over J. Cole's ambitions of NBA stardom.

In a 30-second ad spot for the aptly-titled "Dreamer" line (see below,) Cole runs a shooting drill while No Limit rapper and mogul, Master P, narrates and vocalizes preternatural insecurities. That shouldn't signal much on its own, but in a recent interview with TMZ, the No Limit founder (who had his own run in the NBA, signing contracts with the Raptors and the Hornets in the '90s,) reveals Cole approached him about what it would take to make his own leap to the league.

Reporting on a conversation he had with the North Carolina rapper, P says, "When I talked to J. Cole, he was like, 'You know, big dog, you did it. What do you think I would have to do to make it happen?'" Noting the era-shift, P claims to have told J. Cole,  "This a different time we're in. They're going to pick you apart. You're gonna have to be able to hit every shot." He added, "You're gonna have to go somewhere where the team really believes in you and the players believe in you." Adding some fuel to the rumor mill fodder, the rapper recently revealed he'd passed on the opportunity to play college ball at St. John's University to pursue a rap career in an essay titled The Audacity for The Player's Tribune.

But it doesn't seem he'll be making the transition too quickly. With a pair of new singles, "Lion King on Ice" and "The Climb Back," released just last week and his new album, The Fall Off, en route, the NBA campaign is probably on the back burner for now. It's certainly something to monitor in the weeks and months ahead, though. Especially while the league is running half-blast at a bubble community in Disney World until further notice.
