As Freddie Gibbs preps his fifth album $oul $old $eparately (or SSS), the Indiana rapper recently stopped by Hot 97 to kick off a freestyle in Funk Flex‘s studio. During the lethal freestyle, Gibbs name-dropped disgraced R&B crooner R. Kelly, and his beefs with Benny The Butcher and internet personality DJ Akademiks.
“Ayo, why the started me / Leg shot almost bled out your artery / Kidnap your wife, duct tape her, I got no heart in me / On my Spike Lee, I might might direct, produce, and starring me / F*** R. Kelly, bitch I’m the new king of R&B,” he raps over an instrumental of Amerie’s 2002 hit “Why Don’t We Fall in Love.”
The freestyle comes just four months after Gibbs concluded his Space Rabbit Tour with support from MIKE, Zack Fox and Redveil. Next, Gibbs is set to release SSS on September 30, marking the Grammy-nominated rapper’s major label debut via Warner. The title of the album refers to Gibbs’ “refusal to compromise his morals or integrity under the pressures of the industry,” the label said in a press release. The album boasts a “Space Rabbit” and casino theme, with exclusive merch accompanying the LP.
SSS lead single “Too Much” features Moneybagg Yo. Also expected to appear on the album are Offset, Jadakiss, Rick Ross and Pusha T, with production from The Alchemist, Madlib, Pharrell Williams and more.
