Theophilus London continues to bring back the future old school with his new track “Rio.” Featuring Brooklyn’s finest backing band, the Menahan Street Band and inspired by a recent trip do Brasil, the track lays back and grooves like a Motown classic but with an appropriately tropical vibe. Think of the sophisticated Lusophone disco of Azymuth crossed with Theophilus’ version of “Calypso Blues” and “No Particular One“–both collaborations with The Budos Band, which shares some members with Menahan (specificallyMr. Thomas Brenneck who’s been the co-writer on these TL collabos). Catchy as hell and definitely makes me wish I was in Brazil right now myself. Stay tuned for more information on his still-unnamed forthcoming album and stream “Rio” below.
