Shabazz Palaces Adult Swim Single Art
Shabazz Palaces have shared their sonic contribution to the 2015 Adult Swim Singles series, a dark and strangely captivating track dubbed "The Mystery of Lonnie The Døn." Kicking off with warbling synths sent from another planet, the song gradually seeps like pitch black molasses oozing over a ledge. Lights flicker, lines echo and beneath it all lies low radio static. It's what an R&B transmission from another planet might sound like--if it arrived caked in space dust and warped by gravitational pulls.
Those keeping up with the Adult Swim Singles release schedule know just how many brilliant cuts have already been released--and now many are yet to come. A Sophie remix of Sia will drop on August 24th, and other fast-approaching highlights include DOOMSTARKS (September 14th), Flying Lotus (September 28th) and Run the Jewels (October 5th). Adult Swim has always proven to be keenly in touch with the best beat work of modern times, and they're really making it apparent on this year's collection. Our hats off to them.
Of course, Shabazz Palaces's 2014 LP Lese Majesty still continues to impress, and while that record saw the Seattle group broadening their sound, things never got quite as strange as this new joint. Listen to "The Mystery of Lonnie The Døn" below.
