Marla Joy- "Getting By"

Marla Joy- Getting By

Marla Joy is a Toronto based songstress and classically trained pianist who boasts a raw, powerful voice and a thunderous new single in "Getting By" off her upcoming Syience produced LP, the follow-up to her debut EP Perfectly Flawed.  The track sports her raucous vocal treatments over a hard bluesy accompaniment (think Aretha Franklin fronting Soundgarden). Aside from the soon to be released album, her performance resumé is something most musicians would sacrifice limbs for, having toured with Mary J. Blige, Citizen Cope and apparently once opening for and performing with The Purple One himself, Prince. Wearing her influences on her sleeve, Marla's a clear student of fellow power-crooners Janis Joplin, Robert Plant and the aforementioned Queen Aretha. She's come quite a long way since we first covered her all those months ago, but she's moving and in a hurry. Bear witness below.
