Illa J & Tom Misch Team Up For The Cushy New One-Off "Raise Your Hands"

20-year-old producer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Misch delivered one of the sleeper hits of the year when he dropped Beat Tape 2, a craft exposition of Dilla-spun drums, soul vocals, cool keys and searching guitar solos that really sounds like nothing else heard before in the real of hip-hop. Now, it seems, the young Misch is taking a victory lap, releasing the brand new single/bonus track "Raise Your Hands," which features assists from none other than Illa J.

"Raise Your Hands" is textbook Misc—a choppy and jazz-inflected bit of hip-hop that drifts through a sea of Rhodes keys chords before getting straight to the point. Upright bass and the familiar smirking rasp of Illa J beef up the groove, and when the dingy snare finally drops, you'd swear another certain Yancey had also touched the track...

Beat Tape 2 is currently available for purchase over on Misch's Bandcamp, and if you cop the special extended edition you'll be able to snag "Raise Your Hands" as well. We strongly suggest doing so—Misch's record shows talent and wisdom that defies his young age and, song-for-song, is one of the most tasteful and immersive offerings we've come across in a long, long time. You'll be thanking us, if your head doesn't nod right off first.
