Yasiin Bey remains on the move. The legendary MC stopped by the London studios of NTS Radio Wednesday night to take over their regular radio show. Bey delivered a two hour set that included, most notably, new Yasiin Bey. Sandwiched within a set of woozy electro-jazz tracks from a host of British producers includingLord Tusk, Funkineven, and St Julien, plus Los Angeles duo J Davey and more.
Included in the show’s tracklist is “Black T,” credited to an unknown artist. It’s seemingly a stream-of-consciousness, half-sung freestyle from Yasiin Bey himself, who sounds especially loose and cerebral throughout the entire broadcast. But let’s cut to the chase: the new stuff starts at the 11:30 mark. “New York City ain’t safe no more” is the first new statement from Bey, kicking off a verse that floats above an ethereal beat that we have to assume is being transmitted with his approval, unlike that one song we all got excited about last week.
Listen to the entire show below, which has been uploaded to Mixcloud. Those of you hoping to skip right to the 11 minute mark and hear only the rapper’s new material will have to just remain patient, however. Mixcloud does not allow fast-forwarding in its online interface, and honestly that’s a good thing, because this entire show is brilliant fire.
